Overview

A trek to the Langtang valley has to be one of the most rewarding of the short treks available anywhere in Nepal. The east-west running valley is the site of some spectacular alpine scenery as well as being a great place to meet unique people. A minimum of one week is required but trekkers are well advised to add a few extra days for acclimatization and for side trips in the valley. Along our journey you will walk through the Langtang National Park. Although wildlife is never easy to spot in a forest setting, here you get the chance to see some interesting animals and birds. Among those found in the park are monkeys, musk deer, Pika and the national bird of Nepal, the colorful danphe.

The trek is best started either from Dhunche or from Syabrubesi.

Location:

The Langtang Valley is located in the Langtang National Park, in the northern part of Nepal, bordering Tibet. It is easily accessible from Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal.

Trekking Duration:

The Langtang Valley trek typically takes around 7 to 10 days to complete, depending on your starting point and pace. The trek can be customized to your preferences and time available.

Trekking Season:

The best time to trek in the Langtang Valley is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) when the weather is most favorable, and the views are clear. The monsoon season (June to August) can bring heavy rainfall, and the winter months (December to February) can be quite cold and snowy at higher elevations.

Trek Difficulty:

The Langtang Valley trek is considered a moderate trek, making it suitable for trekkers with some experience and a reasonable level of fitness. The highest point on the trek, Kyanjin Gompa, is at an altitude of approximately 3,870 meters (12,700 feet).

Permits:

To trek in the Langtang Valley, you'll need to obtain the necessary permits, including the Langtang National Park entry permit and the TIMS (Trekkers' Information Management System) card. You can get these permits in Kathmandu.

Accommodation and Food:

There are teahouses and lodges along the trekking route where you can find basic accommodation and meals. These accommodations are simple but provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Guides and Porters:

While it's possible to trek Langtang Valley independently, many trekkers choose to hire a local guide and/or porter for a more comfortable and enjoyable experience.

Safety and Altitude:

Altitude sickness can be a concern in the Langtang Valley, so it's essential to acclimatize properly and be aware of the symptoms of altitude sickness. It's advisable to carry a first aid kit, warm clothing, and trekking gear appropriate for the conditions.

Tour Highlights

Scenic Beauty: The Langtang Valley offers some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in Nepal. Trekkers are treated to panoramic views of snow-capped peaks, lush forests, alpine meadows, and terraced fields. The Langtang Lirung (7,227 meters) dominates the skyline.

Langtang National Park: The trek takes you through Langtang National Park, home to diverse flora and fauna. You can spot various species of birds, mammals like red pandas and Himalayan tahr, and even snow leopards if you're lucky.

Kyanjin Gompa: This is the highest point on the trek and serves as the main destination for most trekkers. Kyanjin Gompa is a picturesque village with a Buddhist monastery, yak pastures, and stunning views of Langtang Lirung. You can also take side trips to nearby peaks like Tserko Ri for even better panoramic views.

Tamang Culture: The Langtang region is inhabited by the Tamang people, who have their own unique culture and traditions. You'll have the opportunity to interact with the friendly Tamang villagers, visit traditional houses, and experience their warm hospitality.

Alpine Flora and Fauna: The trek offers a chance to witness a diverse range of plant and animal life, including rhododendron forests, bamboo groves, and a wide variety of orchids and other wildflowers. Birdwatchers will find the area rich in avian species.

Serene Lakes: The trek also takes you past the beautiful Gosainkunda Lake, a sacred alpine lake that is a major pilgrimage site for Hindus. The lake is surrounded by stunning mountain scenery and is a peaceful spot to rest and reflect.

Accessibility: Langtang Valley is relatively close to Kathmandu, making it easily accessible by road. This means you can enjoy a fantastic trek without the need for long and arduous flights or bus rides.

Tea Houses and Local Cuisine: Along the trail, there are numerous tea houses and lodges where you can rest, enjoy a hot meal, and experience the local cuisine. Try dal bhat (rice and lentil soup), momo (dumplings), and yak cheese while on the trek.

Pristine Nature: Unlike some of the more popular trekking routes in Nepal, Langtang Valley offers a quieter and less crowded experience. You can truly connect with nature and enjoy the tranquility of the area.

Cultural Experience: In addition to the Tamang culture, you may also encounter Sherpa and Tibetan influences in the region, which adds to the cultural richness of the trek.

    Travel insurance

Travel Insurance is mandatory for all customers who looking to travel in Nepal with the Mountain Hiking & Trekking .The Travel Insurance must cover both the evacuation and medical cost

There are many insurance companies that offer travel insurance services over the internet. You can choose from a wide variety of insurance companies as per your convenience. Especially when it comes to trekking in Nepal, there is always a narrow chance of minor health issues, injuries and most importantly – altitude sickness.

It is essential that you prefer an insurance rule that covers the cost of the helicopter rescue from the mountains in case of main accidents and delicate mountain sickness (AMS). through such great cases of an emergency evacuation, a helicopter service is the only way out of the mountains. This includes a rescue team for both – ground evacuation and rescue. Which is why we need your travel insurances to cover the cost of helicopter services and evacuation from the Himalayas

It is forever recovered to be safer than apologetic.

Before you plan your trip with Mountain Hiking & Trekking do make sure that your travel insurance covers all the costs mentioned above from a reliable company.

I have used Mountain Hiking and Trekking twice so far. Each time I come back to Nepal I fall in love with it even more! And I know this is in huge part thanks to Tandi and his amazing team. I've done two treks with them (one to Everest Basecamp, which I plan to do again with Tandi someday soon, another was in midlands Kathmandu, Chesopani - which was beautiful and just the type of trek we were looking for). I have my eyes set on a few more trekking adventures with Mountain Hiking and Trekking in Nepal. They take such good care of us each time, welcoming smiles, all details arranged and a lot of time and attention before the trip to make sure we are happy with the itinerary and plans. The guides are so knowledgeable and easy to become friends with. I highly recommend Tandi for his professionalism and for his human and funny side too! This is a real gem of a company!
