What are the challenges of trek in Everest base camp in November and December?
Snowfall: Late November to February are some of the driest months in the country. However, the high altitude areas are prone to snow fall. You must be prepared for such condition. Always be concerned when you see cloud building up. When the snow accumulates at the shady region, it can be quite slippery. You might need trekking poles. The route can be obscured due to heavy snowfall. If it is snowing, crossing the high passes and glaciers can be quite difficult and risky.
Temperature: The in-room temperature during these months at a teahouse might range between -10 to -150C. It might not snow as much as during December through to February, thus, November should be fine. To sum up, the average temperature in the Everest region is of -60C. But keep in mind that the temperature changes drastically throughout the day.

Forceful Wind: Strong wind blows during the winter season in winter season in Everest region. As discussed above, the speed of wind can ranges from 8 to 12 mph at the Everest base camp. Around the summit, deadly wind blow in these months. Forceful wind together with freezing temperature surely won’t let your trekking in Everest region be easy.
Altitude Sickness: No matter how many times you’ve successfully completed trekking in this area, you shall always be prone to altitude sickness. In its severe form, the altitude sickness can even lead to death. Even in case of mild difficulty not permitting trekking, seeking rescue might not be instantaneous. The situation worsens if you happen to be injured or sick. To avoid altitude sickness, you must trek slow, and take sufficient amount of time for rest and adapting your body with high altitude. It is better to spend the night at relatively low altitude teahouses after your high ascend.
Heavy gears: Gears in other seasons are light and your rucksack won’t be filled up with thick winter gears. Carrying sleeping bag, trekking poles, thick woolen hats, gloves, thermal underwear, board or ski pants, heavyweight down jacket, snood, light rain poncho, etc. can surely increase the weight of your rucksack. If it crosses the standard weight threshold, a porter shall charge extra. Or, if you happen to trek alone, heavy rucksack surely isn’t a good news to you.
